It is important to know is that the fact that the silver darkens does not imply that it is of poor quality or that it is not silver, much less that it has been damaged, it is simply something completely normal speaking of this material.
Silver gets dirty when it reacts with the sulfur that is in the oxygen in the air in the form of hydrogen sulfide but without going into much detail about the chemical reaction, what this sulfide does is "tarnish" the silver, it first gives it a yellowish appearance and then, over time, black.
WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN⁉️
➡️ Products that we put on our skin: perfumes, makeup, creams, etc.
➡️ The sweat itself. The PH (acid number) of the skin can have certain characteristics that cause the rapid darkening of silver. For this reason, some piece can obscure you and not another person.
➡️ Expose them to long periods of sun, artificial light, sea water or abrasive cleaning products.
HOW CAN YOU PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING⁉️
➡️ Avoid being aggressive to the material and keep it away from chemical products like the ones we mentioned above.
➡️ Avoid exposing them to a lot of sweat or heat so you should not use it when exercising and going to beaches, rivers or swimming pools.
➡️ When removing your pieces, place your jewelry in soft cloth bags to protect them from exposure to harsh everyday elements.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR SILVER BACK TO NORMAL⁉️
Go to our IGTV where we have several tutorial videos on how to clean the silver.
➡️ Sodium Bicarbonate
To do this, use aluminum foil, hot water and a tablespoon of baking soda, leave it for 10 minutes and then pass a jewelry cloth. There are situations that you must do this process more than once to bring the piece to its original state.
Take some toothpaste on a toothbrush and scrub your pieces vigorously. Rinse and wipe with a jewelry cloth.
